17th Annual Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews and Blues a Huge Success
Sales Numbers Up Across the Board; People’s Choice Winners Announced
More than 25,000 people descending upon downtown Reno to partake in the 17th Annual Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews and Blues festival Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23. Equal parts barbeque block party, microbrew tasting event and music festival, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Virginia St. was packed with attendees that perused dozens of vendor and craft booths, sampled microbrews from nearly 40 breweries from around the world, chowed down on delicious barbeque including pulled pork from four
whole smoked hogs and rocked out to incredible free live entertainment from big-name bands like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Canned Heat and Edwin McCain.
Beer lovers appreciated the flat rate tasting fee instead of using tokens to sample brews. The new $30 daily or $50 weekend tasting package included an eight ounce souvenir cup and unlimited tastings during the festival
tasting times. Tasting package sales were up approximately 11 percent on Friday and 6.5 percent on Saturday over 2011 token sales. Overall sales for the two-day event were up approximately 28 percent from last year.
Also new this year was People’s Choice award, which replaced the professional judging. Beer tasters crowned Ruby Mountain Brewing Company out of Wells, Nev., the favorite brewery, while Anderson Valley Brewery’s Summer Solstice was named the favorite beer.
The Eldorado Hotel Casino appreciates each brewery, vendor, musician, guest and staff member who helped make the 17th Annual Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews and Blues Festival a success.
