Eldorado’s Charitable Giving for 2012 Surpasses $200,000

As a family owned business with deep roots in Northern Nevada, the Eldorado Hotel Casino has a special connection to the community. Not only has the property established a reputation for quality guest service, but the Downtown Reno casino has consistently committed to hundreds of philanthropic outreach projects each year.

In 2012, the Eldorado Hotel Casino was able to help more than 560 local schools, community and non-profit organizations, events and charities including Wooster High School, The Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, Reno Philharmonic, Nevada Humane Society, American Lung Association and many more. With more than $200,000 in charitable contributions already awarded for 2012, the Eldorado continues to make philanthropy a priority.

No time of year is that priority more apparent than during the Holidays. For the second year in a row, the Eldorado has donated a matinee show to The Salvation Army of Reno. This year’s show raised more than $26,000, which will go a long way in helping those in need in Northern Nevada.

Through the production company for the Eldorado’s holiday show, “Aladdin,” Renown Children’s Hospital is receiving an amazing gift – the same type of $15,000 3D equipment used in the show will be donated to Renown to use for pediatric trauma patients. This technology has been adapted for use as a specialized 3D Distraction System for patients undergoing medical procedures.

Child life specialist Angie McEvers says distraction therapy seems to work well on all patients. "There is a theory that says the brain can't process multiple stimuli at once. So if we divert a child's attention and distract the brain with these cool images or other sensory items, we're able to block some of the painful stimuli. This diversion allows us to minimize the pain a patient experiences as well as helps with anxiety, blood pressure and stress levels."

In an effort to put another 3D Distraction System in the hospital, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will designate a portion of this year’s campaign to match proceeds raised. Funds will also be used to add additional content and for any maintenance or upkeep costs.

The Eldorado thanks all those who contribute to making their communities a better place. For more information on the Eldorado Hotel Casino please call 775-786-5700 or visit us online at www.eldoradoreno.com, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
