Scuba Spots Around Lake Tahoe
Baldwin Beach
Visibility in the water is less than 30 feet due to the creek nearby. Once you get
past the 800-foot area of sand, there is a deep descent at a 350-degree angle.
Bucks Beach
Only 20 feet Deep, but offering some of the nicest underwater compositions around.
Carnelian Bay
Patton Beach in Carnelian Bay has an average visibility of 50 to 60 feet and is
a popular location for summer night dives. Depths average 20 to 25 feet. Past the
first 1,000 feet is recommended for experienced divers only.
Cave Rock
This is artificial reef, located off the shore, has many trout and crawdads. Visibility
ranges from 60 to 70 feet, providing year-round diving for all experience levels.
Dollar Point Wall
Accessible only by boat, this site drops quickly to over 260 feet into the lake.
This site is recommended for experienced divers only.
Donner Lake
Provides a good location for high altitude Sierra diving.
Emerald Bay
Accessible only by a 20-minute boat ride from Meek's Bay. Visibility here ranges
from 60 to 70 feet. Explore views of an old cabin and large trees and one of the
lake's only underwater parks.
Hurricane Bay
A popular dive location with an immediate drop-off. Visibility is about 70 feet
and large trees are located beginning at 40 feet.
Lower Echo Lake
Visibility averages about 20 feet providing views of large rocks on a silt bottom,
with tree stumps.
Meeks Bay
After a short swim, average depths range from 10 to 15 feet gradually getting deeper.
Visibility averages 60 feet.
Rubicon Point
Located in D.L. Bliss State Park, Rubicon Point is recommended for divers of all
experience levels. Visibility can range from 70 to 100 feet. A wall dive is also
available at this location, although recommended for advanced divers only.
Sand Harbor State Park
This beach is the most popular dive site in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with an
elevation of 6,230 feet and an average depth of 30 feet.
Stateline Wall
This is the second best wall site at Lake Tahoe. Depths drop to over 800 feet with
an average visibility of 80 feet. This is an advanced dive recommended for experienced
divers only.
Sunnyside
Located in Kent State Park, Sunnyside is well known for deep and night dives. The
area has a steep drop off at a 450-degree angle and a visibility of 60 to 70 feet.
Zephyr Cove
A popular location for new divers, entry from the beach leads to an average depth
of 20 to 25 feet.
