Pai Gow Poker
Pai Gow Poker combines the elements of the ancient Chinese game of Pai Gow and the
American game of poker. It is played with a traditional deck of 52 playing cards,
plus one joker. The joker can be used only as an ace or to complete a straight,
a flush or a straight flush. Each player at the table is dealt seven cards face
down, which the player arranges to make two hands: a two-card hand and a five-card
hand. The five-card hand must be higher than the two-card hand. Any player’s hand
that is set incorrectly is an automatic loser.
The object of the game is (A) players winning both front (low) and back (high) hands
are winners. (B) players winning either front (low) or back (high) hands are a push.
(C) players losing both front (low) and back (high) hands are losers. Neither house
bank nor the player bank may foul their hand. The hand must be reset under house
rule. Once the house banker, dealer or player bank exposes his cards, the players
can not touch theirs. Players are not allowed to show their hands or talk to other
players before all cards are exposed. Players are responsible for arranging their
own hands and should do so with care. The house collects 5% commission on all winning
hands.
